You know it's going to be good when it's an Indian restaurant and all the customers and staff are Indian!! We came here on July 4 without a resy but only waited about 20 minutes. You need to come and get their dinner combo for one. For $25 you can get two full size (and delicious) spicy meat and daal curry, a sizzling plate of grilled meats, rice, and naan! We also got the biryani. We didn't know how big the portions would be, but the waitress was so sweet that she told us we'd be ordering too much. She kept checking up on us and asking if the food was enough, and we felt so big backed for even have considering ordering more before the food came. All of the food was amazing and well spiced. Standouts were the spicy meat curry and the lamb kebab in the grilled plate. Definitely add Maharaj to your Chicago itinerary!
Food options in the Loop tend to be overpriced and not that good, but my friends and I were looking for a place to grab a bite after work and one of them had been to Maharaj previously and had a good time. I was very happy with our meal here, especially thanks to the great service specifically from Khushi and Ishaan. The place is very cute inside and they have a wide array of options. Plus if you check Yelp before (we last minute decide so I missed it), apparently you can get 15% off your bill. We got the vegetable pakoras, dahi papdi chaat, butter chicken, tandoori mixed platter, chicken soup, bread basket of naan and kulchas, and the shrimp biryani. The meal also comes with a basket of roasted pappadams at the beginning of the meal, which are so delightful especially with their sauces. The shrimp biryani is spicy as an FYI, but yummy with the yogurt it came with. I also really enjoyed the dahi papdi chaat and my friend who has not had a lot of Indian food really enjoyed the butter chicken. The naans definitely go well with the butter chicken sauce.
Everything was great about this place. Food was fantastic, service outstanding, ambience fine, very reasonable price . As a lover of Indian food, I look forward to coming back! Highly recommended.
The lunch Chef Special was a tremendous meal. The Tandoori chicken, the two curries, Nan and rice were generous in the servings, delicious, and a great buy. Service was exceptional, with gratitude to Ishan and Kranthi. Thank you. I am looking forward to my next visit!
We are visiting Chicago for the weekend and happened across Maharaj today. We are very happy that we ate dinner there. The food was absolutely wonderful, made with fresh ingredients and served in generous quantities. And we can't say enough good things about our servers, Maidi and Kranti. They were very helpful and attentive and gave us terrific service.
Oh my I can't wait to come back to Chicago and eat here again. Staff was really great and welcoming. The food was absolutely outstanding! Flavors so on point! The lamb Rogan Josh was freaking delicious! All the food we had was perfect! Really can't say anything else. 5 fucking stars!
Great Indian food! I placed an order through Uber eats for the butter chicken, samosas, and naan. Everything was incredibly delicious! If you're looking for good Indian in Chicago this is your place! Everything was super tasty and fresh. When I'm back in Chicago this will definitely be the place I order from.
The food and presentation was great, the service was very good, and the atmosphere was really cool. My husband and I came here for a nice meal after arriving in Chicago and we had one of the best Indian meals we've had in a long time! We got the Chef's Platter which had chicken and fish tikka, Rogan Josh, daal makhani, some grilled minced meat, and naan & rice. I also got a masala chai and my husband got a mango lassi. Everything was delicious and it was the perfect amount of food for us.
As soon as we stepped inside, place was popping with a diverse crowd. Place had good energy and lively music! Food was delicious & packed with flavor. Starting with the samosas - they were bigger than I imagined and were filled with a generous amount of yummy meat within a crispy outer layer. Moving onto the goat curry and lamb chops - our waiter told us how the goat curry was one of his faves when he brought out the dish and it was VERY clear why! The goat was so tender and cooked to perfection. The lamb chops were a close 2nd to the goat curry but was a standout dish in its own right! We also tried out a few of their alcoholic drinks, which were kinda disappointing so would just avoid those. Otherwise, an affordable place with great eats and vibrant energy!
The best dining experience I've had at an Indian restaurant by far. I visited with family to try the lunch menu and was pleasantly surprised by the great prices and generous amount of food we received! The atmosphere was fun and colorful, and the place was quite busy for a Thursday afternoon. The service was quick and the food was great. I ordered the Kadhai Paneer-spicy. It was definitely spicy, but I'm glad I ordered that spice level because the jump from medium to spicy is quite a difference! My dad got the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was buttery, warm, and creamy. My boyfriend ordered the Tandoori Chicken, which came out steamy and hot. He loved it! The dishes came with plenty of warm naan and Dal which was also great. Overall we had a great time and will definitely be back.
